It's not... right now I'm just worn out, that's all. I went after six other people yesterday, besides you, and I've spent today trying t'iron that all out. [ Feels vaguely as though he's probably missed the point, but has no idea what to do about that. After a pause. ] Most've them said no, thank God.
And the bird's been a pain in the ass all day. [ The magpie opens its beak and ruffles its feathers, defiant. ]
[ That tone is not a good one. Rubs at his forehead now. Shit. ]
Some guy I've never met before. And a girl I've made friends with here. [ Insofar he really has "friends" aside from Allen... and, yeah, Cecil. He feels bad about Yonah, a bit awkward about Quinn. ]
And also Allen. [ Who he doesn't feel bad about at all. ]
"Allen is the other partner you spoke of before, is he not?"
[ The wolf just blurts out the question despite that Cecil immediately slaps her palm against her own forehead, blushing. Well, she suspected it, but she was pretty content to just politely never ask about it. Ugh... ]
You do not have to answer him. Or explain yourself. You are not my servant or my—
[ She hesitates, not really sure how to put it in a way that isn't offensive, terrifying, or misleading. Unfortunately for her, her daemon doesn't care to split hairs, not even when he's distressed. ]
"—or her intended. You do not care who she takes to bed, so she should not care who you take to bed."
[ Please let the earth open up now and swallow her whole. That'd be nice and convenient. Why do death and disappearances only happen here when it's not convenient. ]
[ The magpie just makes a squawking sound, hopping from foot to foot on Lavi's shoulder. This... is not exactly territory he knows anything about. Only really what he gleaned from Cecil the first time they really talked about... whatever they have going.
After a moment of thought, biting down on the inside of one cheek, Lavi tugs on her hand and starts walking in the direction of the hotel. ]
[ That's an unexpected development and it shows. Her daemon plants his large paws in the grass as though he means to protest being pulled anywhere, but when the woman finds herself effectively tugged along, he has no choice but to follow after them all. ]
[ When they get there, he pays for a room and collects the key. He went for one of the nicer rooms, one that has a set of chairs and a table, in addition to the bed. ]
The wolf said that. I said Clubs is fine. I make the choices, not him.
[ Now that they're there though, she just sighs while her daemon plops down under the table, accepting this turn of events likewise. Cecil looks around. She's a little... confused. She saw his daemon have a small panic attack and then he brought her here. Why? ]
[ Lavi pulls out one of the chairs for her, mindful of the wolf under the table. ]
Didn't want t'talk right there, and in Clubs anybody can walk in on a conversation. [ The magpie flutters off and perches on top of the curtain rod. ] Kind of seemed like you were upset.
[ She hesitates, a little perplexed by the gesture, but she does take the seat while her daemon pulls his ears back against his head defensively. Cecil sighs deeply and focuses her gaze on the table, blinking slowly as she tries to get her thoughts and feelings together. ]
Right now I'm struggling to understand what I am to you. You know I'm aware that, as a Bookman, you don't have personal connections. I understand that Allen and any other Exorcist, were they here, would likely be the exceptions to that for obvious reasons. I grew up as a soldier. I understand better than most the bonds that are forged between people when they are surrounded by death and violence.
But I am not someone who's fought at your side for years. I thought I was just a warm body to you, company you had fun with. This... Kissing my cheeks, expressing a desire for me to be safe, to protect me... holding hands and pulling out chairs... To me, these actions have deeper emotional connotations. I don't know if it's the same to you. I keep telling myself it can't be, but as I said, I... might hope the opposite is true.

"Most."
[ Cecil's eyes cut to her daemon quickly in a warning glance as she answers softly to keep him from talking more. ]
Oh.
[ The wolf says no more, but he definitely seems... agitated. Panicky almost. Bewildered too. ]

You really did not have to do this.
